The never-ending coat

My time is such that I have to divide it into tiny increments for each thing I have to accomplish. I don’t think this is a foreign concept to anyone, so it really goes without saying, but I do have a point, which I promise I will be getting to soon.

Besides work and mom/wifery, I try to fit in things such as personal hygiene (this ranging from the normal stink reducing type to something bordering on obsessive), reading (for relaxation and/or education), shopping online (more window shopping than anything, but still), and finally, personal art projects.

As you may or may not know, I am making a 17th century frock coat for my husband.  He is going to be a Blackbeard impersonator.

He is loud and appears pirate like, as he is tall with long black hair and a long black beard.  He looks to be in an almost perpetual state of anger.  Children often stare after him, mostly young boys, with a look of fear mixed with amazement and awe.

Without padding the wallets of renaissance fair/steampunk types, we have managed to save quite a bit of money by making everything ourselves, except, of course, for the sword and the flintlock pistols.

So since Halloween, I have worked on nothing, literally nothing else, except for his coat..oh, and a llama riding a giant bacon sculpture for my coworker, which I made while B was awake, so I don’t really count that.

Moving on., unfortunately, I have almost almost go the coat finished, meaning the shell sewing to the lining, this has been an immense pain in my ass, as the coat is suede, and lining is some other fabric, I don’t remember what kind, and I made it from the original pattern and I’ve had to alter the suede one so much, because it has to like, pouf out, kind of tutu-esque, but in a manly fashion, so I’ve had to add pieces here and there, so it looks patchworky.

Here’s some photos, as this post is getting boring.

Archer, as always, on the tv in the background.

So as I thought I was done, and could add the stuff that makes it awesome and pirate-like:

I cannot. Because the lining on the right side is too short, making the coat pouf in a non appropriate way.

I don’t think you can tell from the photos, but trust me, its there, being an asshole.
